For over 100 years, this historic building on Chesterfield St. has educated generations of Aikenites. The Aiken Institute previously was an elementary and high school. In 1990, part of it underwent renovation to become the Aiken County Public Library. But that was a generation ago.
Vibrant communities
like Aiken know that to attract new businesses and families while educating
each new generation, a modern library is a necessity not a luxury. So, in 2019,
the Friends of the Aiken Library partnered with Aiken County Government, to
fund the first major improvement in over 30 years. This multimillion-dollar
renovation combines community input with the latest trends in library design to
create a facility that can educate future generations in fun and exciting ways.
We invite you to invest only $100 in Aiken’s future and have your name or that of a loved one engraved in perpetuity on a brick at the base of the beautiful, new library steps.
