Boy Scouts of America Gorham

Camping is truly a great adventure and Gorham Scout Ranch (formerly Camp Frank Rand) epitomizes that adventure, offering Scouts warm days and cool nights of camping in the wild outdoors, plenty of nature, and miles of high desert stargazing. The Ranch draws more than 2,500 Scouts and 400 adult leaders and volunteers annually from New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma

Gorham Scout Ranch has been undergoing a $2 million improvement project. We have added new activities, like rock wall climbing and an Adirondack campsite, improved camp favorites, including the aquatic center and shooting ranges, and improved facility infrastructure by adding a new maintenance building, 160,000-gallon water tank, and latrines.

We are proud to report that we have completed the majority of camp improvements, thanks to generous gifts from foundations, businesses, and individuals. Now we turn to you, our Scout families, to support a project that benefits each and every camp attendee -- the remodeling of the Dining Hall.

How You Can Help

The Council is offering engraved Honor Bricks what will be installed at the Ranch to create a seating patio adjacent to the Dining Hall. With these 4” x 8” bricks, you can leave your own legacy at Gorham Scout Ranch or choose to honor another worthy individual. A basic brick is $125 and included a three-line inscription. For an additional $25, you can add a logo to recognize accomplishments like being an Eagle Scout, receiving the Silver Beaver Award, or working at summer camp.

How Your Support Improves the Ranch

The Honor Brick patio will provide a pleasant outside seating area near the Dining Hall. This part of the camp receives significant traffic from people walking to and from the Dining Hall and Trading Post. Funds raised from the brick campaign will help pay for Dining Hall improvements.

During a week of camp, attendees rely on the Dining Hall for “three squares a day” -- up to 18 meals for each resident camper. The dining hall also prepares sandwiches and fruit for snacks during the day and supplies ingredients, utensils, and cooking tools for groups to prepare campsite meals. The Dining Hall will be renovated using the financial support provided by Honor Bricks and will include several improvements:

  • Reconfiguring the meal lines to include two serving sections will reduce the time spent waiting to be served food.
  • New kitchen equipment (refrigeration unit, stove, ice machines, meat slicer, and ovens) will allow our cooks to freshly prepare a wider variety of foods and rely less on processed foods.
  • Addition of a salad bar will allow us to offer more fresh and healthy options.
  • New seating will increase the capacity to feed more youth and adults and make mealtime more comfortable.
  • Replacement windows and doors plus additional insulation will lower utility bills and allow for cold weather building use.
  • Needed roofing, deck repairs, and stucco will keep the building in good repair and prevent further weather-related damage.

Going Above and Beyond

You can order a replica of your Gorham brick to keep at your home or office for an additional $50. You can order several bricks and we can even have custom sections of bricks created for those wanting larger designs or adjoining bricks (please contact us directly to discuss options and pricing for custom sections). We can also help your Troop, Pack, Post, or Crew organize brick campaigns and orders to ensure your unit is well represented in the Honor Brick patio.

Placing Your Order

You can order online and pay immediately with your credit/debit card or send in payment by check. If you would like to mail in your order, or print forms to distribute at your next unit meeting, download the form HERE.
