Maranacook Area Athletic and Recreation Expansion

The Awesome Bear Society (ABS),  Maranacook Community HIgh School's Booster club is leading an effort to make significant expansions and improvements to the existing facility on the Maranacook Community High School campus and needs your help (see attached aerial layout of complete project scope). This project is focused on expanding existing facilities for multi-use athletic and recreational opportunities that will be utilized by numerous Maranacook area communities beyond the boundaries of RSU 32.

The project is comprised of three phases:

Phase 1: The Concession Courtyard (see attached artist's rendition) In this phase, renovations to the existing concession stand, construction of a parallel building for restrooms as well as added athletic storage, construction of  a main entrance into the main athletic complex with gate, fencing and a paver based courtyard in between the two buildings will occur. Targeted construction for this phase is the summer of 2019 or 2020. Estimated cost $200,000.00.

Phase 2: The Recreational Trail Network and Outing Club Expansion In this phase, renovations to the existing Nordic ski trail system will take place which will include widening, drainage and grading.  In addition, an approximate 1 Km loop will be lit for late afternoon and night time use.  Additional trails will be added for hiking, walking and snowshoeing.  Also, a new Outing Club building, roughly 46' x 26',  will be constructed to house outdoor equipment and serve as a gathering place for club and community members.  Targeted construction for this phase is the summer of 2020 or 2021. Estimated cost $115,000.00.

Phase 3: The Track and Ricky Gibson Field Expansion This phase will include renovating the entire track complex to a full 8 lane track, installing an artificial turf field inside the track which will be lined for use by field hockey, soccer, football and lacrosse teams, expanded lighting for the complex to increase its hours of use, improved access and parking to the complex.  Targeted construction for this phase is to be summer of 2020 or 2021.  $2,200,000.00.

In support of this project, ABS is reaching out to donors, large and small, for your support in fulfilling this community vision which will serve many area communities, conserve resources through the expansion of an existing facility, while creating endless recreational opportunities to all ages in our communities as well as area sports teams.
