Friends of Bountiful Bench

It is our belief that public art is a hallmark of a strong community.  It clearly states that this is a place that embraces beauty, supports creativity and imagination, and inspires ideas and vision. Great art invites young and old to participate in a conversation of meaning and appreciation as well as promoting inclusion and community.

The piece is located at Creticos Cancer Center, 921 W. Barry Ave.,  Chicago, IL 60657

Bountiful Bench by Chicago artist Christina Murphy of Rock Art Studio is such a piece. The bronze art work depicts a Women of Nature, displaying the ebb and flo of our many bounties sculpted meticulously on her blanket.  ChrisTina describes her work saying “Bountiful Bench is a life size model of functional art. Visitors can sit on her lap and will find a welcoming peace, a grounded tranquility, and a soft sense of healing in their mind, body, and spirit.”

This piece is temporarily installed in front of the Living Wall at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s Creticos Cancer Center. During the past year, patients, doctors, and community members marveled at the beauty of the piece and the sense of calm and healing it seems to bring them and their families. We would like to make that installation permanent.

The Friends of Bountiful Bench was formed to make that happen. We are a group of community members, who believe in the healing power of art, the value of adding beauty to our neighborhoods, and the mission and care provided by Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. AIMMC is truly an excellent nonprofit, teaching center, which is one of the top ranking in Chicago and the United States.

The artist shares these values and has agreed to forego any profit from the sale of this piece and will be happy to see Bountiful Bench permanently installed at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

We are seeking support from individuals and businesses interested in public art, neighborhood beautification and community health. We need your help to bring this vision to life. You can help by creating a brick to show your support. Bricks may be purchased to express personalized memorial messages, acknowledgements of special people and occasions or you can dedicate one to a friend, loved one, or pet. Please help make a lasting memory while supporting public art.

Sincerely,

Friends of Bountiful Bench.
