Be part of New Boston history with your personalized brick on the town common.
The Town of New Boston has many historical landmarks and structures, including the centerpiece, our beautiful gazebo, built in 1994. Countless residents and visitors have taken photos near the gazebo and attended events around it such as the Farmers Market, Summer Concerts, Easter Egg Grabs and Christmas Tree Lightings.
Since 1994, the Recreation Department has been the main caretaker with regard to repairs and maintenance of the gazebo. As a testament to the people who designed and built this structure, the Recreation Department has had to make only minor repairs to the front steps and handrails in 27 years. We power wash and paint it on a regular schedule, which helps maintain the look and integrity.
As a homeowner, you know the roof on your house has a shelf life before it needs to be repaired, or eventually replaced. Our gazebo is no different. The original roof is still intact but is showing signs of deterioration. We want to be proactive instead of reacting to a potential future issue, which could come at an inopportune time.
The gazebo roof is not a typical one. It is made of red cedar shingles that were pre-treated by hand before they were professionally installed with great precision and care. This is the reason the roof has lasted over 27 years through wind, rain, snow, ice, sunlight and temperature changes. This type of roof material is more expensive than your regular roof shingles but it is built to last and gives the structure a historical look that matches other buildings in the village.
We are conducting this fundraiser to help fund the future replacement of the gazebo roof, which we anticipate will be within the next 2-3 years. The new bricks, pavers and walkway will also enhance the gazebo and the war memorial monument. When everything is complete, we think New Boston residents will be even more proud of their town common! Thank you for your support!
