Founded in 1978, The Norwalk Seaport Association is a non-profit grass roots environmental organization that is active year-round. It owns and operates the 1868 Sheffield Island Lighthouse, and Light keeper's cottage listed on the National Register of Historic places. The NSA organization are the Stewards in the preservation and restoration of the historic lighthouse. We work in partnership with the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge which offers us an unparalleled opportunity to educate children and adults of all ages about the importance of preserving Long Island Sound, our environment, and Maritime heritage and history.
This year we will be celebrating the Sheffield Island Lighthouse's 150th Birthday and have much needed work projects on the island. This fundraising project is to raise funds to continue the upkeep and maintenance of Sheffield Island and the Lighthouse, while bringing awareness to the community about how the preservation of historic buildings and nature contribute to our quality of life. Participation in this project offers you a unique opportunity to become a part of our Lighthouse Legacy by placing your family name, message or remembrance on our well traveled pathway. Purchase a brick on the pathway and add your Legacy to the history of Sheffield Island.
