From World War I through the
Gulf Wars, 21 members of our Pioneer Family have died while serving our
country. Over that same time frame
hundreds of Batesville High School graduates have served in the National Guard
or one of our military branches. At
present there is nothing on campus to honor our fellow Pioneers for their sacrifices
and service.
To honor the “Pioneer 21” and
to show proper respect for Pioneers who have served, proud BHS alumni &
community leaders are committed to correcting this oversite by raising funds to
build a veteran’s memorial, the Pioneer Patriot's Park, at the northeast entrance
of Pioneer Stadium.
Fundraising for the park will initially
come from the sale of patriot engraved bricks to be purchased only by BHS
alumni, school administrators, teachers, and employees currently employed at
the school or retired from the school. The
engraved bricks may be purchased to honor veterans who graduated from
Batesville High School and/or to honor family members who honorably served in
the military regardless of where the family members went to school. The way we see it, as a Pioneer alumnus, if
they are part of your family, they are a part of the Pioneer Family.
The honor bricks will have the name of the veteran, the service branch emblem if you wish,
and the donor’s
name below the Pioneer Veteran.
Be sure to select your class affiliation for placement of the honor brick as the bricks
will be grouped by
graduation year of the veteran honored or the donor.
On the next page, please use the "Comment Section" below the virtual brick
to specify the graduating class in which you'd like your honor brick to be placed.
