Summit Volunteer EMS Buy-a-Brick Program
The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, Inc. is an independent non-profit corporation dedicated to providing emergency medical services (EMS), non-emergency ambulance transportation, and safety training to the Summit community. We are staffed 100% by volunteers and all of our services are provided free of charge.
As the primary EMS agency for the City of Summit, the First Aid Squad responds to various types of emergency 9-1-1 calls for help. We also provide non-emergency services including “stand by" response at community events and non-emergency transportation for Summit residents.
The New Headquarters Project
The original Squad building was constructed in 1964. Ambulances at that time were retrofitted Cadillac's and the supplies, training, and communication necessary to administer first aid was rudimentary.
With the significant advances in Emergency Medical Services over the past fifty years, that building became inadequate to meet the needs of The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad in serving the community. Newer ambulances did not fit into to the main garage and 2 of our response vehicles had to be parked outside.
In 2014, the old building was razed to make way for the current headquarters which was designed to augment the architectural elements of many Summit landmark buildings, including the Middle School and the Summit train station. The building is also designed to fit in with nearby residences, as well as the Art Center next door.
Thanks to the generosity of Summit residents, business, and local foundations, a capital campaign raised sufficient funds to construct the new building which the Squad occupied in June of 2015. Now we need some help to put the finishing touches on the new home that is expected to serve us and the community for the next 50 years or more.
