Our organization was established to raise funds to be used to preserve the site, encourage heritage tourism, and expand opportunities for locals and tourists alike to learn about the history of Atlantic County's oldest building which was built in the early 1720s. In the early 1940's the WPA restored the site to its classic appearance; however, time and weather have taken their toll on the building. Accordingly, among our goals are the restoration of the second - floor Captain’s Walk which was unique to the period, creation of the Somers Mansion Brick Garden, construction of a classroom, repainting of the stucco, and landscaping of the grounds.
The Somers Mansion is administered by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental
Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry.
