Preservation Project

In 1937, the town of Englewood, TN received money from Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal to upgrade the water system. Part of that system was the Water Tower that stands 144’ tall and is an icon for our town. Efforts were made by a grassroots committee, the Water Tower Preservation Committee, to get the Water Tower placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the first Water Tower in Tennessee to receive that designation. This was achieved in 2020.  Funds were raised to restore the Tower to its original condition.  That project was completed in July 2022.

The committee is now authorized to turn the area into a pocket park.  A brick memorial will be part of honoring those who worked on the project and those who gave money to make the Tower painting possible.  Additional bricks can be added to honor others.
