Team Doctor from 1969 - 2011
In 1969, Doctor Robert H. Pierce became the Fruitport Trojan Team Doctor. The football team was in its eighth season.
In over 40 years, “Doc” Pierce served on the sidelines through 9 different head coaches. Doc never counted clock hours; he was always willing and ready to help student athletes and their families when they were in need.
Most of his dedicated service to the community of Fruitport is not recorded. He didn’t want it that way. Simply put, he influenced and added value to multiple generations of Fruitport citizens without regard to their status or ability. His commitment and passion for the Fruitport Community will not be forgotten. For this reason, the Fruitport Community Schools School Board voted unanimously to re-name the High School Football Field, the Robert H. “Doc” Pierce Field.
On
August 24, before the first home football game of the 2014 season, “Doc’s Wall”
was dedicated. However, funds are still
needed to finish this project. Pavers
purchased now will be added to the walkway before the start of the 2015
football season.
