• 1 in 6 children between the ages of 3-17 face a developmental disability diagnosis?
• 100% of all children want to be included and play with their peers?
• And finally the closest All Abilities playground is in Atlanta, as of the January 2016?
Leadership Monroe is a group of established and upcoming leaders from a variety of backgrounds whose purpose is to foresee problems and generate solutions not easily recognizable or achievable by the individual.
The Leadership Class of 2016 desires to help all children of all abilities by creating an all abilities playground to promote inclusion. The inclusive components will tie into the existing playground at the Monroe County Recreation Department.
Our project will need to include the following:
• Landscaping to level the ground to ensure wheelchairs and strollers can access the playground area.
• Benches for parents to sit to supervise their children.
• Wheelchair Swing and Sensory Boards
The size of the playground and amount of equipment we will incorporate will directly be related to how well we do in our fundraising efforts and how much money is raised.
To include the signature of the community in our project we are selling bricks to put your family's name, company name, or organization on this monumental project.
