Dear Goddard School families,

As you know, The Goddard School supports a variety of local organizations each year with different fund raising projects.  The participation of our families in helping to support these worthy causes is always appreciated.  In March and April this year we are choosing to support a cause that is close to our collective heart since it involves a family member of one of our faculty who has been on a long and difficult medical journey for the past nine months.

Jason Lucas, who is the brother of our own Ms. Alexis, was born with a single ventricle and transposition of his heart’s major arteries.  In June of 2016 his heart failed to pump, he was rushed to the emergency room and received a totally artificial heart.  He not only survived this incredibly difficult medical emergency, but he has since been the recipient of heart and kidney transplants and is now in the process of a long and difficult rehabilitation regime.  Jason is, quite simply, a medical miracle and a remarkable young man.  The good news is that his spirit is strong and his approach to this incredible challenge has been to fight hard for his life and he is winning that fight!

During this entire period the Lucas family has been by his side supporting him and helping him through the incredibly difficult challenges he has faced along the way.  Laurel and I have decided that this spring we would like to support the Lucas family by having a fund-raising project dedicated to Jason, the proceeds of which will be used to help defray some of the considerable expenses that the family has incurred over the past year and a half.

To support Jason, we will be building a permanent brick patio in the open space just outside the front door of the school.  This patio will be approximately six by twelve feet and will be constructed of engraved paving bricks.  We will be offering the opportunity to have your family’s name or your child(ren)’s names engraved on these bricks in support of Jason.  We are suggesting $50 for one engraved brick, two for $90 and three for $125.

The Goddard School will fund the entire cost of the paving material and the labor to build the patio so that all the money donated for the engraved bricks will be available directly as support for Jason.  Once the patio is completed, we will be installing a park bench on the patio to complete the project.

As you can imagine, this has been a challenging time for Alexis and her family. We appreciate your support for Jason and, at the same time, your discretion by giving Ms. Alexis her privacy as much as possible.  Please know that she and her family appreciate the support of the whole Goddard School family very much and we ask that you honor their privacy.

Sale of the engraved bricks will begin on Wednesday, March 1st and will continue until Friday, March 17th.  A sample brick is in the lobby with detailed information on how to participate.  Families can order their bricks on-line through a dedicated website and will then be shipped to us for installation.  We anticipate completing the project sometime by early May of 2017.

FOR ALL QUESTIONS OR HELP WITH ORDERING PLEASE CONTACT: DAVID HAJEK 804-550-0092 OR EMAIL [email protected]

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE MULTIPLE BRICKS YOU WOULD NEED TO SUBMIT A NEW ORDER FOR EACH BRICK. ALL PAYMENTS AND DONATIONS SHOULD BE MADE DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOL.
