Tips on Starting a Memorial Legacy Project with Meaning

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and has been observed since the end of the Civil War. Memorial Day is now observed on the last Monday of the month of May and honors the brave men and women who have died while in service of our armed forces. Memorial Day is a National holiday.

Whether you decide to do a patio, walkway, or wall for your memorial project, engraved bricks are a lasting and beautiful way to remember and honor the men and women who have lost their lives while in service to our country.

Obtaining Approval for your Engraved Brick Memorial

  • The first step with any memorial project is obtaining approval from the board or committee.
  • Have a written plan of action.
  • How do you intend to raise the funds for the project?
  • What are your plans to promote your brick campaign?
  • Who are your potential donors?
  • What are the costs?

You may also want to show the board a sample of what one of the custom engraved bricks will look like.

Some memorials will only display the name of the deceased soldier while other memorials opt for having not only the name but also the rank of the soldier, nicknames, dates of birth & death, and even what conflict or war the soldier participated in. Military clip art may also be included.
