The Lake Wichita Revitalization Project is a tremendous movement to take Texas’ 3rd oldest reservoir, built in 1901, and return it to state in which it can provide significant social, economic, ecological, and recreational benefits to the community for another 100 years. This holistic project includes restoring the lake, wetlands, and watershed (so we have a quality lake again) as well as developing multiple amenities and access around the lake. Full project plans can be read about at Lake Wichita.

Texoma has a strong patriotic and military tradition, with more than 30,000 Veterans in the area, Shepard Air Force Base, and Ft. Sill Army Base. The Veteran’s Memorial Plaza at Lake Wichita is designed to provide everyone in our community the opportunity to simultaneously support Lake Wichita and our area Veterans. This area (located off of Kemp Blvd.) will be a gathering place for many wonderful outdoor events.  This area will be a draw for the community and provide an opportunity to learn about our community’s and Nation’s military history. It will provide a scenic location for families and Veterans alike to enjoy the healing powers of nature and being outdoors. It will be accessible via the Circle Trail, the current boat ramp will be expanded to a four-lane boat ramp, there will be boat slips for 25 boats, a restroom, fish cleaning station, Lake Wichita Donor Recognition wall, trees, benches, and Lake Wichita historical marker.

The plaza will eventually include recognition of all American Wars and bricks recognizing service from the different wars will be grouped accordingly.  The Veteran’s Memorial Plaza will serve as home to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Sculpture. This amazing sculpture will be 11-feet tall and was designed by official Texas State Artist Garland Weeks. The sculpture is a result of the hard work and dedication of our friends at the Major Francis Grice Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Wichita Falls TX Chapter 41 of Disabled American Veterans, and the Lake Wichita team.

The Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial is intended to serve as a thank you to all of those that served during the Vietnam era, as a sign of appreciation that none of them received when returning home, as a gathering place where our Veterans can find some serenity in the outdoors, and a place for others to learn about the tragedies that resulted from this war so that we may avoid them in the future.

A local Veteran, businessman, and philanthropist has committed $500,000 to this plaza and we are so very grateful. Such a wonderful and great start, but in order for this to be completed we still need everyone to contribute what they can. You can make a tax-deductible donation online to the Lake Wichita Revitalization Project at the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation donate and/or you can purchase a memorial brick here. As this is the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, we encourage you to honor the service of any family or friend that served in any branch of the military. If they served in a war we recommend you add that as a line on your brick and feel free to choose their branch of service, or other clip art at no additional charge. This is your chance to support Lake Wichita by permanently honoring a friend or family member that served, memorialize that lost loved one (veteran or non-veteran) that maybe took you boating or fishing at Lake Wichita, or simply show your support and what you love about Lake Wichita (all icons from the Lake Wichita logo are available to be added to a brick at no additional charge).

If your brick is in recognition of Military service please make sure and enter their branch of service and service dates (years) on a line. In the comments section please let us know if their service was during a war, i.e. Vietnam Era Veteran, Korean War Veteran, etc.”
